UEFA Ranks EPL, Serie A as Top Leagues in Europe [2025 List]
UEFA best European leagues: As the 2024/25 football season approaches its end, UEFA has updated its official ranking of the best football leagues in Europe. According to the five-year club coefficient, the English Premier League (EPL) remains the top-ranked league in Europe.
In second place, Italy’s Serie A has overtaken Spain’s La Liga, which now sits third. Meanwhile, Germany’s Bundesliga and France’s Ligue 1 complete the top five, confirming their status as powerhouses in European football.
UEFA uses these rankings to determine how many clubs from each country can qualify for the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. The ranking is based on performances in European competitions over the past five seasons. Consequently, consistent success in these tournaments directly boosts a league’s standing.
For instance, the Premier League’s dominance is due to strong showings from clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal. Similarly, Serie A clubs, including Inter Milan and Roma, have performed exceptionally, helping Italy climb ahead of Spain.
Furthermore, countries like the Netherlands, Portugal, and Belgium maintain top-10 positions, thanks to competitive clubs in the secondary tournaments. Although some leagues outside the top five struggle with global visibility, their domestic talent pools continue to improve.
