Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the poor conditions under which some Nigerian students sat for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). He described the situation as a national disgrace and a clear failure of the country’s education system. Atiku urged the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to allow a retake of the affected paper. He also called for the enforcement of basic standards in the conduct of national examinations.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education criticized WAEC for not appearing before it despite widespread complaints. Reports had emerged of students writing exams late into the night. In response, the committee issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding a full explanation from WAEC.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) also expressed outrage. The association condemned the postponement of the English paper due to a leaked question.
