Governor Usman Ododo has called on the people of Kogi State to turn out in large numbers to vote for all the chairmanship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 21 local government areas on October 19, 2024.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the APC’s statewide campaign for the local government council elections, held at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja on Thursday, Governor Ododo urged the electorate to also support the party’s councillorship candidates across the state’s 239 electoral wards.
The Governor called on APC candidates and stakeholders to work tirelessly to secure total victory in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of the party’s success in the local government council polls.
Joined by party leaders from the three senatorial districts, Governor Ododo highlighted the accomplishments of the APC-led administration in Kogi State. He proudly announced that his government had successfully implemented the 40% affirmative action for women in elective positions. This was achieved by reserving all vice-chairmanship positions and at least four councillorship seats in each of the 21 local governments for women. Additionally, the appointment of Ward Special Assistants and Local Government Special Assistants has brought governance closer to the grassroots.
Governor Ododo called for unity and peace among Kogi citizens, encouraging continued support for the APC-led government. He pledged that the state’s resources would be utilized to lift people out of poverty while building on the achievements of the previous administration across all sectors.
“Our state is blessed with abundant mineral resources and human capital. We must work hard to build on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor and the past administration in various sectors by supporting the APC,” Governor Ododo stated.
He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in addressing the nation’s economic challenges, assuring that Kogi State would continue to align with federal policies and programs aimed at easing hardships for Nigerians.
In his remarks, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, commended Governor Ododo for his outstanding performance, which has made the local government election campaign easier for the party. He urged APC members to engage in door-to-door campaigns to ensure a decisive victory in the October 19 polls.
The event saw a large turnout of APC members from all 21 local government areas and witnessed the defection of Honourable Salman Idris, representing the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC.
