Kogi State Warns Private Schools on 2024/2025 School Census

The Kogi State Government has warned private schools not to ignore the 2024/2025 Annual School Census (ASC). Any school that refuses to take part may pay a fine of ₦200,000 or face closure.

The Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, gave this warning during a meeting in Lokoja with school stakeholders. He explained that the census helps with planning and ensures fair sharing of resources. It also supports the state’s free education programs.

He stressed that the census is not meant to punish schools. Rather, it helps the government make better choices by using real and current data. For this reason, he urged all schools to take part.

In addition, Hon. Abdullahi Abdulmalik, the Special Adviser on Education, said the census comes at the right time. He pointed out that strong data leads to better education policies.

Dr. Animoku Elizabeth from the Education Ministry added more details. According to her, the census will collect data on student numbers, teacher qualifications, and school facilities.

To make the process smoother, the government will use digital tools. Officials also called on school owners to work with them. They said accurate data will help improve education across the state.

Finally, private school leaders at the meeting agreed to support the census.
