In a press conference held at the party’s secretariat, Tuesday in Kano, the State Party Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas accused the Returning Officer of the election and the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in the state of going ahead to unlawfully return Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP as the winner of the election when it ought to have declared it as inconclusive.
He explained that going by the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC Regulations and Guidelines for the conduct of Election 2022, wherever the disenfranchised voters who have collected their PVCs outweighs the margins of win between the candidate with the highest number of votes and his runner up, it is mandatory for the Commission to declare the said election as inconclusive and order for a rerun elections at a further date.
The party chairman drew attention to the fact that , “16 of the House of Assembly elections held on the same date, same venue, same process and same circumstances with the Governorship election were declared inconclusive by the same INEC”.
The party insisted that whatever violence and cancellations that befell these House of Assembly elections similarly befell the governorship elections and should be treated in the same manner.
The party disclosed that it has already written to INEC headquarters to review the wrong and hasty decision of the Returning Officer and declare the governorship election in the state as inconclusive as well as order for a rerun of the election.
The party lamented the level of attacks meted out on its members and its facilities by the supporters of the New Nigeria People Party(NNPP) and appealed to security agencies to take active steps to end the provocations.
It also appealed to members to remain calm in the face of these attacks.
the briefing was attended by the governorship candidate of the party, Nasiru Yusif Gawuna and all the leading chieftains of the party in the state
