Burna Boy 2025 MET Gala
Afrobeats star Burna Boy made a big impact at the 2025 MET Gala. The event took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Honoring Black Style
This year’s theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The night also highlighted a special focus: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” It explored the beauty and strength of Black fashion through the years.
Burna Boy wore a bold outfit designed by Ozwald Boateng, a British-Ghanaian fashion icon. He wore a red wool tuxedo with a long oxblood cape made of eel skin. Boateng said the outfit was “not just for the carpet, but for history.”
A Deep Message
The look honored Burna Boy’s roots in the Niger Delta. The eel skin cape stood for water, strength, and tradition. Burna Boy called himself a “waterside pikin,” a child of the river. The outfit showed pride in his culture and people.
He also carried a leather-wrapped bouquet made of flowers from southern Africa. It featured Protea, Gerbera, and Leonotis Leonurus—plants that stand for healing, hope, and unity. It also included the Red Crinum lily, a water flower tied to his homeland.
Style with Purpose
This was Burna Boy’s second MET Gala appearance. Once again, he used the global stage to share African fashion, story, and pride. He showed that clothes can do more than look good they can carry powerful messages.
